Driverless Cars Are Hitting The Streets Of America

Everything you have seen recently about self-driving cars is all too real.

Come April, California will be allowing companies to test driverless cars on public roads.

According to Complex, California’s Dept. Of Motor Vehicles has made safety their first priority, “This is a major step forward for autonomous technology in California,” they also said that “safety is out to concern and we are ready to begin working with manufacturers.”

Companies interested in applying for a permit, there are three different types. Testing with a safety driver, driverless testing, and deployment.

There are requirements for manufacturers and operators alike, you can see them here.

The world's first driverless taxi is launched in Singapore on August 25th 2016. Created by nuTonomy, an American start-up company, the taxis allow selected passengers to use a smartphone app to order a car. During this initial stage of the project, passengers will be accompanied by a nuTonomy driver who can take control of the car should the autonomous driving system fail. In addition to Renault's Zoe electric vehicles, the company also uses Mitsubishi's i-MiEV electric cars. Credit: EPA/nuTonomy #technology #driverlesscars #Singapore #cars
